Oh it was a good day today in Seattle. The weather was great and we were able to have the shower outside at my sister in laws house. Happy Day! The guests were in a good mood and the bride to be was pleased. I made hot pads and cute plaid napkins to go with the placemats and towels. I was pleased that they seemed to be well received. Next event… well I think I’m going to see if I can finish the quilt top that I’ve started and then work on a couple of things for camp. Busy busy busy.

My niece is getting married soon. We are having a shower here for her but she lives in California so will need to get all the gifts back home with her. We will either pack an additional suitcase for her and pay the fee or ship the gifts to her. When thinking about the weight and packing issues I decided that table/kitchen linens would be a fun and appropriate gift. I bought some placemats and kitchen towels and will make napkins and hot pads. The napkins are still in the works but I tried a different type of pot holder and am really pleased with the way they turned out. I think they will be practical, they are colorful and they were fun to make. I can see making more of this type soon!
It’s been many years since my baby boy has needed a bib! They are fun to make and here are a couple of boy versions. I’m sure I’ll be making more soon. Yesterday I bought a clearance bath towel at TJ Max that will make a great back for many bibs. It’s fun to add the colors and designs to the back and inside of projects and this will be an easy and cost effective way to add some fun. For now however, here are the boy bibs. And oh yes, my baby boy did not will the Billboard competition but was included in footage on the Billboard Awards on Sunday evening. They did a wonderful job and are all winners in my book. So fun to see him there. Exciting moment for this momma!
I haven’t had too much time to sew this last week because I was out of town. The band did a fabulous job but did not win. It was fun to see a few snippets of them on the Billboard Music awards last night however. They did show a montage of the bands and their road trips so Hotels was there. Very cool.
This week the sewing has been baby bibs. I had lots of fun doing these. They were quick and easy. I know there are lots of free patterns out and previously I just copied a pattern that I had here but I actually used McCalls 6108. It was fast and easy and the proportions were perfect. I used some fun fabric and lined them with terry and the Mom was pleased. Here are the little girl versions and I’ll post the little boy versions a bit later today.
I finally finished the pouch for my new Kindle and just in time for a trip! I think this will work well. It’s protection for the Kindle so I don’t feel like it’s going to slide out of my hands when I pick it up and also will be fine and not too bulky when I slip it into my purse. It has a bit of character where I pieced in the squares and the lining inside is fabric with cute little chairs on it. Also turquoise. It’s fun, somewhat modern and I think will meet my needs perfectly. This was a good finish.
Well, I finished pouch number 1. Now I’m on to number 2. A little bit wider and a little bit longer. Apparently I miscalculated a bit in the depth and the width when I added the zipper and it’s just a bit too small. It did turn out very cute however and I have a new home waiting for this little cutie. Stay tuned for round 2.
Mom bought some new sunglasses recently but they are bowed and didn’t fit into any of her glasses cases. She also wanted to be able to keep them in her purse so she had them when she needs them. So… for her birthday she got this fun little zipper pouch. It’s bright enough that she should be able to find it easily in her purse and it’s lined with a black and white print so she should easily be able to see them inside as well. This was fun to do and I think it turned out very cute.
I’ve not spent as much time sewing today as I thought I might but I have pulled a few weeds, been to the fabric store for more white sashing fabric, washed and dried the fabric and started sewing the strips together. I hope to have them all sewn and start cutting before I have to quit for dinner. For now, here is a pictorial update.
